Thank goodness for the weather cooling down a bit. It is more tolerable to walk in the evenings with the kids and the dog. Life is going to get a bit hectic here for me next week. Starting graduate school classes. I hope I like them. My husband's birthday is tomorrow. No card and no gift yet! What is a busy wife to do? My daughter is crawling everywhere and pulling up on everything. Her brother isn't far behind her. I am still in shock that they are already 9 months old.
On a side note, I am still amazed at the conversations my coworkers have. Football, politics, traffic, housing market, the economy. It wouldn't be so bad if they weren't sitting at the opposite end of the hall and I hear every word they say. There is never a shortage of opinions either. The other thing I saw yesterday, two grown women in the bathroom, trying on each others jeans in the middle of the afternoon. They were discussing fabric contents and which pair made their butts look better. Got to love DC.
The life of one mom in suburbia learning to be a good mom, have a meaningful marriage and career and still make a bit of time for herself.

Trying to Beat the Heat
Today was another one of those days commuting to work when I didn't ride with my husband. He had a meeting down past Manassas. He also thought he would be nice and turn off my alarm so I could sleep in. Not helpful. The twins were beside me in bed and I looked up at the clock and it was 8:45 am. What a way to start my morning. Drove to the bus and rode the bus to the metro and rode the metro into work. There was one catch, the train got stuck in the tunnel right before my station. We sat in there a really long time, well it seemed pretty long. 15 min. When the train doesn't move the air conditioning doesn't circulate. We were all really uncomfortable. When I finally got off the train and to surface streets, I saw a coffee shop on the corner. I ran in and got a mocha frappuccino while I was waiting for the bus to take me 8 blocks to try and cool down from the already hot city temperature of 95 degrees. By the time I got to my office it was 11:45am. Obviously I have to do the whole thing in reverse this evening.
This week we are in charge of the garden at our shul. Tonight we have to try and re-stake all of the tomato plants. They are so heavy they pulled the stakes out of the ground. I also need to find a good recipe for carne asada. Miss Busy is getting her first tooth finally and she has also figured out how to pull up on the side of the playpen. She is too short to reach over which is a good thing because I can picture her trying to climb over the side.

Weekend Relaxation or so I thought...
I really thought this weekend would be relaxing and I would get a lot of household chores done. Silly me. We looked for new houses this weekend. I had no idea that was going to be so tiring or weird. If you are going to show your house at least have the courtesy to leave when someone wants to see it. It is awkward to see the owners still home. We went to our local fire department family picnic. It was great to see everyone there but why do some people feel the need to be stupid when there is alcohol around? By the time we got home, put the kids in their beds and straightened up, I went to bed. Sunday I had a meeting and we also had to take care of our synagogue garden. My wonderful husband managed to get some laundry done. Thank goodness or I would have had to come to work wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Not exactly what they had in mind when we were told business casual.

Working from home
Does anyone have one of those days where they try and work from home and run errands? I used to be pretty good at it but with Miss Busy and Mr Important, it is a logistical nightmare. Besides the twins usually don't want me to put them down when I am home. They are much better with the Au Pair. With her, they are on a "schedule", in as much they are predictable. One lousy dr's appointment and my allergy shots took three hours. I really thought having kids would be easier. They would just go with me. I didn't realize how much gear they have. Or as my other half puts it, their MEL (minimum equipment list). Tonight is duty crew night at the fire house. I am running out as my husband is running in. Not exactly the healthiest way to have a marriage but somehow we manage.

Teeth
Mr Busy has decided to cut his two top teeth at the same time. Poor baby. They must itch a lot because he is constantly rubbing his tongue over them. He isn't sleeping either. So neither am I. Well, come to think of it, the 4 of us aren't sleeping. I am at home nursing another migraine and still trying to get work done. At least I am not using the car/bus/metro/bus/walking method of getting to work today.

Another Day of DC Commuting
Today was another one of those bad commuting days. My husband had to go to an all day meeting minutes from our house. I on the other hand had to come all the way into town like usual. He drops me off at the bus. By the time I am walking into my office, it has been 2 hours. I still have to ride the 2 hours home. The twins are starting to pull themselves up on the coffee table, the baby jail, me and any other thing they can grab. I also have a meeting tonight at 7:30 that is supposed to only last 30 minutes. I think I have some Ben and Jerry's "Buried Treasure" in my freezer that I also have a meeting with tonight.
